چکیده

We introduce in this paper a novel image annotation approach based on support vector machines (SVMs) and a new class of kernels referred to as context-dependent. The method goes beyond the naive use of the intrinsic low level features (such as color, texture, shape, etc.) and context-free kernels, in order to design a kernel function applicable to interconnected databases such as social networks. The main contribution of our method includes (i) a variational approach which helps designing this function using both intrinsic features and the underlying contextual information resulting from different links and (ii) the proof of convergence of our kernel to a positive definite fixed-point, usable for SVM training and other kernel methods. When plugged in SVMs, our context-dependent kernel consistently improves the performance of image annotation, compared to context-free kernels, on hundreds of thousands

CNRS - TELECOM ParisTech at ImageCLEF 2013 Scalable Concept Image Annotation Task: Winning Annotations with Context Dependent SVMs

In this paper, we describe the participation of CNRS TELECOM ParisTech in the ImageCLEF 2013 Scalable Concept Image Annotation challenge. This edition promotes the use of many contextual cues attached to visual contents. Image collections are supplied with visual features as well as tags taken from different sources (web pages, etc.). Our framework is based on training support vector machines (...

Visual Concept Detection using MOD Salient Points

Visual concept detection is the automated detection of image semantics. Detecting image semantics is particularly useful in content based retrieval because it allows us to annotate media with semantically meaningful information. One computationally efficient approach toward subimage annotation is to focus on regions which are considered salient. The novel contribution in this paper is using the...

CBSA: content-based soft annotation for multimodal image retrieval using Bayes point machines

We propose a content-based soft annotation (CBSA) procedure for providing images with semantical labels. The annotation procedure starts with labeling a small set of training images, each with one single semantical label (e.g., forest, animal, or sky). An ensemble of binary classifiers is then trained for predicting label membership for images. The trained ensemble is applied to each individual...

Medical Image Annotation in ImageCLEF 2008

The ImageCLEF 2008 medical image annotation task is designed to assess the quality of content-based image retrieval and image classification by means of global signatures. In total, 12,076 images were used. In contrast to previous years, the task was designed such that the hierarchy of reference IRMA code classifications is essential for good performance. 24 runs of 6 groups were submitted. Mul...
